Dear Parent or Guardian:

Another exciting school year is upon us!  I hope that you and your family had an enjoyable summer break. Now it is time to prepare for another busy year of school.  I am thrilled to be your child’s instructor in English Language Arts for the upcoming year and I think we all agree that strong language and writing skills are important ingredients in preparing your child for a successful future.

I will endeavor to provide your child with the opportunity to learn in an enriched, open, and stimulating environment. Knowing that parental participation in a child’s education is essential, I want to thank you in advance for your cooperation in helping to make sure that your child is successful in my language arts class.

We will explore a variety of topics throughout the year including: young adult literature, informational reading, drama, poetry, grammar and the craft of writing. All students are expected to keep up with class and homework assignments in a timely manner. Tests, projects, and essays will comprise 80% of the final grade, while daily grades (classwork, quizzes, homework) will comprise 20%. Grades can be viewed by visiting PowerSchool.

In order to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment, students are required to:

· Be on time for class.

· Be prepared each day and actively participate in class.

· Complete all assignments in a timely manner.

· Follow directions.

· Be respectful to others.

Each student is expected to have the following materials every day:

  • School Agenda
  • Paper
  • Pens or Pencils
  • Composition notebooks
  • Binder (1 or 2 inch)

If you would like to donate a box of tissue and/or a bottle of hand sanitizer for our classroom it would be greatly appreciated.

Once again, I am looking forward to working with you and your child during the upcoming year and greatly appreciate your helpful cooperation in making this year a productive one. If you have any questions or need to talk with me regarding your child’s progress; you can reach me at school or by e mail at My planning period is from 8:30-9:05 and 1:30-2:00. Please keep this letter for future reference during the year.
